16. North Pacific Whales Stocks

(from "Chairman's Report of the Fourteenth Meeting")

In fulfilment of a promise made in connection with the revision of Paragraphs 9(a) and 9(b) of the Schedule at the Thirteenth Meeting of the Commission, the Canadian Commissioner gave a short report on the resumption of whaling on the west coast of Canada. He stated that more detailed scientific results would be obtainable next year. In order to implement the resolution of the Thirteenth Meeting of the Commission dealing with the study of North Pacific whale stocks, the Commissions' Scientific Committee appointed the following Working Group:

     CANADA .. .. .. Mr. G.C. Pike
     JAPAN .. .. .. .. Dr. H. Omura
     U.S.A. .. .. .. .. Mr. D.W. Rice
     U.S.S.R. .. .. .. Dr. V.A. Arseniev

The Commission agreed that the Secretary should be asked to write to the members of the Group just mentioned in order to draw their attention to the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Scientific Committee's report of 29th June, 1962. It was also agreed that a meeting of the Group should be held some time before the Fifteenth Meeting of the Commission, perhaps at the same time as the meeting of the Scientific Committee.
