8. Antarctic Catch Limitation

The two seasons' suspension of the Antarctic blue whale unit catch limit decided upon at the Twelfth Meeting of the Commission ended with the season 1961/62 and has therefore returned to 15,000 blue whale units. Within this limit the five Antarctic pelagic whaling countries, by an agreement outside the Convention reached in London on 6th June, 1962, allocated the catch in the following proportions: Japan 33 per cent, the Netherlands 6 per cent, Norway 32 per cent, the United Kingdom 9 per cent and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics 20 per cent.
