14. Sperm Whale Stocks

The Scientific Committee had reported that the principal new information on
sperm whale stocks related to the North Pacific where it recommended no
further increase in the catch.
In view of the agreement to limit the catch in the North Pacific the Technical
Committee did not make any recommendation to the Commission.
Because of the lack of assessment of sperm whale stocks except in the North
Pacific the Scientific Committee proposed to hold a meeting early in 1970 to
study sperm whale biology and methods of assessment, and if possible to make
assessments for all stocks.
