7. Opening of Meetings to the Press

(from "Chairman's Report of the Twenty-Fifth Meeting")

The Chairman reported that in response to a request from the conservation organisations a poll had been taken of Commissioners on whether the meeting should be open to the press. Of the nine replies received, eight recorded opposition and one was favourable with conditions.

The question in relation to future meetings was considered by the Finance and Administration Committee and the Commission accepted its majority recommendation that representatives of the press should not be admitted to the Commission's meetings. The Commissioner for the United States stated his Government's support for the admission of the press, at the very least to plenary sessions.
