13. INTERNATIONAL DECADE OF CETACEAN RESEARCH

The Scientific Committee had prepared a revised list of priority projects, and the Commission approved the provision of support from the Research Fund for whale marking equipment.

The Commission endorsed the recommendation of the Scientific and Technical Committees that the Secretary be empowered to discuss with IUCN the submission of these programmes for possible funding and to take appropriate action with national groups. Responsibility for coordination of the programmes should rest with the Secretary and local organisers. Canada asked that the Commission note the great importance of recognising the Research Fund of the Commission and the opportunity for voluntary contribution to it.
