(from "Chairman's Report of the Forty-Third Meeting")

The Secretary presented amendments to the Seventh Edition of the Register of Whaling Vessels.

Spain pointed out that it has no whale catchers and the Secretary reminded the meeting that the Register shows vessels officially classified as whaling vessels in shipping registers. Chile stated that it has no whaling vessels and it will present the necessary evidence of conversion to the Register in order to change the classification of the vessel Riochu Maru No. 18.

Japan, Iceland and Norway all indicated that they will continue to withhold information following acts of terrorism directed against whaling ships.

The UK expressed appreciation to the compiler of the Register.

In the plenary, Norway reiterated that it will continue to withhold information on the Register of Whaling Vessels following acts of terrorism directed against whaling ships. Iceland made a similar statement, and Japan concurred.
