「ヴィンセント」 ｂｙ ドン・マクリーン
1972年発表。オランダ出身の画家、フィンセント・ファン・ゴッホにささげられた曲。ゴッホの伝記を読んだ1971年に書かれたという。「Starry Starry Night」という歌詞で始まるが、これはゴッホの「The Starry Night（邦題：星月夜）」という絵に由来する。

とあるのがゴッホの人生を表しているのでしょうか。
「あなたがどんな風に正気に痛めつけられたか、どんな風に皆を自由にしようとしたか」
英語圏でもsuffer for your sanityに込められた意味は何？という疑問がネット上に出ているので、ここはゴッホを深く知る人に聞くしかないでしょうねえ・・私は絵画は門外漢です。
説として出ていたのは「正気でいようと苦しんでいたことを表している」「ゴッホの方がむしろ正気だった」などなど。
しかも２番からはhow～の前にtheが付いてる、何か聖書からか何かの定型文なんでしょうか分かりません。
